Obituary
Obituary
Obituary remains one of the most influential and groundbreaking bands in the death metal genre, one which they helped to create. Hailing from the sunny state of Florida with a bevy of bands with a decidedly un-sunny take on metal Obituary along with Death, Morbid Angel, and Deicide, combined hyper-speed guitar riffing, complex arrangements and guttural screams to create a bleak and violent soundscape that defined a genre. Unlike their peers though, Obituary avoided the more common trappings of this style of music shunning the Satanic bent of the lyrics and the breakneck pace of the dual guitar assault.

In 1989 Obituary released their debut album, Slowly We Rot, a death metal milestone. Brilliant in both its complexity and brutality, Slowly We Rot gave us but a glimpse of things to come. They followed it up in 1990 with Cause of Death, which saw Allen West replaced by former Death guitarist James Murphy (Cancer, Disincarnate) and bassist Daniel Tucker replaced by Frank Watkins (Hellwitch). 1992 saw the release of The End Complete and showcased the talents of a band clearly at the top of its game. With the departure of Murphy and the return of West, The End Complete is vicious and tight ripe with intensity. In 1994 death metal fans were treated to both Don't Care and World Demise. After a three year hiatus, Obituary returned with Back from the Dead, proving that old habits die hard . . . and heavy. Back from the Dead was unrelenting in its power and craftsmanship, proving once and for all that the band that started it all could still do it the best.
Decrepit Birth
Decrepit Birth
Decrepit Birth was formed in 2001 by Matt Sotelo - guitars, Bill Robinson - vocals, and Derek Boyer – bass. Originally the intention was to play devastating, brutal, technical death metal, mixed with influences from the early 1990's Florida death metal scene. Since Matt and Derek had at one time both played in Southern California band, DEPRECATED, it was easy for the two of them to begin collaborating on material for the first full length Decrepit Birth album "…And Time Begins".

In Fall of 2002, with the help of friend Tim Yeung on session drums, they entered Legion Studios to begin recording. Almost a year later "…And Time Begins" was released on Unique Leader Records, artwork by Dan Seagrave. The album had production issues but still managed to forge a very solid fan base in the death metal scene. The band went through a dry period of playing no shows due to the lack of a drummer. Bassist Derek Boyer got the chance of a lifetime and was offered a full time position with death metal legends SUFFOCATION. That left Decrepit Birth with out a drummer or bassist.

During 2004, bassist Risha Eryavec stepped in and not long after that, drummer KC Howard of ODIOUS MORTEM officially joined the band as well. For the next couple years the new lineup played many shows, fests and one North American tour. In 2007 the band took a break and began writing full time for the new album. They went through some lineup changes and also dealt with personal issues related to a past member. This conflicted the band, and brought about a spiritual overhaul. The result was a change in direction and sound. The new music was becoming influenced by melodic and progressive compositions. The sound was more mature and catchy, while still maintaining the brutality Decrepit Birth is known for.

In Spring of 2007 Decrepit Birth entered Castle Ultimate Studios with engineer Zack Ohren to begin recording for the sophomore album. In January 2008 the highly anticipated album "Diminishing Between Worlds" was released again through Unique Leader Records. During that same month of January, Decrepit Birth embarked upon their biggest tour yet, opening for THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, THREE INCHES OF BLOOD, and HATE ETERNAL. With the addition of a second guitarist, Dan Eggers and bassist, Joel Horner(both of ODIOUS MORTEM) to replace Risha so he could focus on his family and job, the brand new line up played night after night of sold out shows through out the United States. Now with a new album freshly released, Decrepit Birth was able to catch the attention of Nuclear Blast Records, which was a label the band really wanted to work with for years. After negotiations, they happily signed on with Nuclear Blast in Spring of 2008. The band is currently touring in support of the new album and is also writing new music, which can only be described as an "evolved version of what we did on Diminishing Between Worlds".
Gruesome
GRUESOME is a respectful a celebration of the sound of the early DEATH records. The band was borne out of guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey and drummer Gus Rios' mutual involvement with the DEATH TO ALL tours (Harvey serving as frontman for the original nine-member mini-tour and Rios performing "Baptized in Blood" and working with DTA drummer Sean Reinert on the following US tour where EXHUMED filled in as support on a few dates). The pair stayed in touch and discussed their mutual love (obsession?) for the early half of DEATH's catalog. After discussing and discarding the idea of putting together another incarnation of DTA to focus exclusively on the first two albums, Harvey half-jokingly suggested writing their own songs in that vein. It wasn't long before the idea gained traction, and the "band" had five songs written. With Harvey writing in California, Rios recruited POSSESSED guitarist Daniel Gonzalez and DERKETA bassist Robin Mazen to record the material in Florida, while Harvey tracked his vocals on the west coast. The result is a truly gruesome slab of late-80s / early 90s "Florida Death Metal" that specifically celebrates the early DEATH records. Tragically, there will never be any truly new DEATH material, but GRUESOME is humbly determined to keeping the band's classic sound alive as faithfully as possible.
Rivers Of Nihil
In a time when the music industry is highly over saturated, it's rare when artists genuinely strive to create something different from the norms of their genre. This Reading PA based 5 piece has been doing just that. Forming out of previous bands and local comradery, Jake, Brody, Jon, Biggs and Ron are on a relentless path of taking things to the next level. In the fall of 2009, they recorded an EP titled "Hierarchy" with producer Carson Slovak of Atrium Audio. The positive response to "Hierarchy" throughout the online community and local music scene gave the band the opportunity to play countless shows, including an appearance on the "Midwest Fuckfest" held in Milwaukee, as well as a 2 week tour within the first year of existence. Nearly 2 years of playing out "Hierarchy", the band entered the studio in June of 2011 with Len Carmichael to record "Temporality Unbound", which features six tracks of pure sonic devastation sure to please fans of the old material, while bringing in new listeners with the matured songwriting and niche for writing more than just riffs. "Temporality Unbound" will be released on October 28th, with touring currently being planned around the release.
the zenith passage
It was in early 2012 that a small recording collaboration between two friends (Justin McKinney and Greg Hampton) began to coalesce into something that would prove to be well more than the sum of its parts. The Zenith Passage may have come about from humble beginnings in a stuffy Los Angeles apartment, but the produce thereof is anything BUT humble. Even the earliest demo tracks delivered a relentless torrent of technical guitar work accompanied by a distinctly frenetic and brutal vocal delivery that has since become an unmistakable hallmark in a scene that is all too often the victim of stagnation. Far from being strictly a shredfest, TZP also incorporates a thematic backbone that draws inspiration from the chaotic and awesome destructive powers of our universe. Progressive interludes invoke a palpable sense of abstract dread and reverence for things beyond mortal comprehension. The atmosphere created clearly nods to inspiration drawn from legendary acts such as Deeds of Flesh, Soreption, Fallujah, Severed Savior, and Aeon.
The project's initial offerings generated enough buzz in social media circles alone to convince the duo to redouble their efforts in earnest, and to begin seeking out members to complete their lineup. This proved no small task in a saturated market, but persistent scouting over to following months precipitated the addition of friend and drummer Josh Slater (Aethere) into the mix. The subsequent release of a proper EP in January 2013 (entitled "Cosmic Dissonance") catapulted TZP's recognition to previously unprecedented heights, greatly broadening their fanbase, and catching the attention and admiration of some of California's foremost metal musicians. Not long thereafter, it was announced that Rob Maramonte (ex-Fallujah) would also be stepping in to lend his talents and fill the role of second guitarist.
With the onset of all these new developments, and the lineup nearing completion, it seemed only natural to take the next step and join the ranks of those by whom they had been so heavily influenced. Thus, in the summer of 2013, TZP had the honor of signing on with Unique Leader Records for a multi-album deal. The stage is currently set for TZP to secure their foothold in topmost reaches of the metal pantheon, and they are hard at work churning out new content for their debut full-length. Rest assured, this marks only the beginning. The world has only just set foot onto the passage towards the pinnacle, the apex, the Xenith. BLEGH.
The Kennedy Veil
The Kennedy Veil
The Kennedy Veil is a band of musicians who have come together to bring you the next level of brutality. Formed in the early months of 2009, The Kennedy Veil is the brainchild of Casey Childers (ex-Forktung) and Cody Walker (ex-Skribble and Traits Of A Killer) who have conspired to form a band together for years. When finally the opportunity arrived, both jumped at the chance. After a short search, they found drummer Gabe Seeber (ex-Wretched Dawn) and the foundation of what was to be a truly original, dynamic, and utterly crushing form of death metal emerged. With the final addition of Shawn Peterson on bass, the circle was complete and The Kennedy Veil is set to be a breath of fresh air in a metal scene bogged down with cookie cutter metal. The Kennedy Veil prides itself on pure musicianship and ultra high energy performances. Come to a show and witness for yourself what The Kennedy Veil truly is.
